What is Senate Bill 1579 and why is it important to salon professionals?

Salon professionals are most often the first line of information for clients discovering developing hair-loss. No surprise there. Those of us in the industry know how often we are asked for hair-loss recommendations and solutions and need to educate our clients. We spend quite a bit of time counseling and educating our clients on the myriad treatments to address this serious beauty issue. We have the opportunity to help our clients navigate to the right professionals who can provide sound and knowledgeable help.

PBFC believes industry professionals should be able to be compensated for the time and energy invested in making sure their clients get the right information about various hair-loss remedies.

To that end we are supporting Senate Bill 1579 by Senator Ron Calderon that would allow licensed barbers and cosmetologists to be compensated for providing information and advice to their clients on hair loss, including a referral to a hair restoration physician for a hair restoration educational consultation.

At present, Senate Bill 1579 is supported by the Professional Beauty Federation of California, California Association of Schools of Cosmetology, Behind the Chair, The Hair Loss Journal, Bosley, The Alliance of Cosmetic Medical Practices of California, The California Black Chamber of Commerce, The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Diversity Salon and Spa.
