California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology
Fee Increases for 2008

APPLICATION/EXAMINATION AND RENEWAL FEE INCREASE
AND ADDITION OF INITIAL LICENSE FEE

Sacramento, CA -- Effective January 1, 2008, the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (BBC) will have a change in fee requirements. Pursuant to the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Section 998, there is an addition of an application/examination fee to be added to the initial license fee when applying for a barber, cosmetologist, esthetician, manicurist, or electrologist license in California. The application/examination fee will be $75.00 for all personal license types. Candidates will also be required to submit the initial license fee with their application. Please see the following fee schedule for each license type:

*The pre-application fee has not changed and is still $9.

The application/examination fee, initial license fee, and any pre-application fee should be combined in one payment when filing the application. If an application is submitted with incorrect fees, the application will be returned with a deficiency letter requesting additional monies and the examination will not be scheduled.

Additionally, the CCR, Section 998 also includes a $10 increase for license renewal on all personal licenses and a $5 increase to the delinquent renewal fee. Effective March 1, 2008, the renewal fee will be $50 for all personal license types and the delinquent renewal fee will be $25.
