California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology
Enacts Reciprocity for Out-of-State Licensed Professionals

Sacramento, CA - Early in 2008, the California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology enacted and implemented regulations to allow recent experienced salon professionals from other states to go to work more quickly without requiring additional school hours and testing. The new regulations reads:

The board shall grant a license without an examination to an out of state applicant if the applicant submits all of the following to the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology:
1. A completed application form and all fees required by the board
2. Proof of a current license issued by another state to practice that meets all of the following requirements:
  - It is not revoked, suspended, or otherwise restricted.
  - It is in good standing.
  - It has been active for three of the last five years, during which time the applicant has not been subject to disciplinary action or a criminal conviction.
  Applicants qualifying and applying for reciprocity must only pay the license fee.
