Board of Barbering & Cosmetology
Answers to Legislators.
Watch the Video. It's not pretty.
Early in 2005. the Board of Cosmetology was at the top of the Governor's list of 88 Boards to be disbanded. SB 1482 dissolved the former 'Bureau' of Cosmetology and re-established our own 'Board' of Barbering & Cosmetology. We were all very happy about that but not happy that several 'old voices of discontent' were named to that board. To ensure action by the new board, the legislation to bring back the board stipulated the board must act on the issues of concern that had been ignored by previous boards and the recently removed 'bureau' and report back to the legislature December, 2005 on its progress after three years. Well, we arrived at the legislature's deadline after two and a half years of board inactivity despite more meetings than any other board in the state and very little of the work prescribed by the legislature (and harped on by PBFC for the past several years) accomplished. Below are two documents that focused on those industry issues once again. The PBFC report to the committee on the left and the State's own legislative backgrounder prepared by the state for the legislators at the December 6th hearing. What a time that was.
We eventually successfully lobbied the "powers-that-were" to get new board leadership in place and since then have had an excellent working relationship with this key regulatory board;
