Round Two
Sunset Review Committee
March 30th, 2006
Unfortunately a videotape was not made of the second round of the Sunset Review Committee's taking our Board of Barbering & Cosmetology to task. Those that were there tell us it was worse than what happened in December (see video below). Senator Figueroa and the other legislators were angered at the fact that the board leadership, Dr. Della Condon and Joe Gonzalez, were once again absent to 'face the music' and answer the committee's questions. They once again sent Kristy Underwood, the newly appointed Executive Officer and board member Richard Hedges to face the committee's wrath.
This time around, the committee were additionally armed with the published recommendations of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the managing agency under which our Board operates.

Bottom line, the PBFC recommended that we not to lose the board 'structure' to a new bureau as the board structure is not the problem, the current leadership is the problem.
The PBFC applauds the solutions being considered by the Sunset Review Committee and looks forward to the day when our board will once again be following the philosophy of Star Trek's Mr. Spock and once again be concerned about how the "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few".
