CALIFORNIA LEGISLATORS & STAFFERS
STEP INTO' 5th ANNUAL "WELCOME TO OUR WORLD"
SALON/SPA EXPERIENCE AT CALIFORNIA CAPITOL BUILDING

Sacramento, CA – The Professional Beauty Federation of California (PBFC) recently transformed the sedate South portico of the California Capitol Building into a warm, inviting salon/spa experience. Over one hundred State legislators, administration officials and staffers signed up for hair cuts, manicures, facial rejuvenation treatments, and massage, and had the opportunity to learn about our industry as well as get the low-down on some of the latest trend-setting technology appearing in salons and spas today.

Good music, friendly welcomes, tasty edibles and a warm, inviting stylist, nail tech or massage professional experience ensured some very good feelings about the professionalism of our industry. In addition, once again, they were reminded who we are as an industry and where to go for information and resources about the beauty industry.

All professional services were performed by wonderful salon professionals volunteering their time and talents to make sure their ‘special clients' felt at ease in their industry. Several supporting stylists flew into Sacramento from as far away as San Diego and Orange County. (Special kudos to Stylists Ruth Rivas, Trisha Gonzalez of Collections Salons and Robert Chavis of Screams of Passion Salon for making the trip.)

PBFC Chair Ted Nelson says, "Educating legislators and their staffs about the policy priorities of the beauty industry is important. Legislators need facts . . . accurate information and good science to make informed judgments as they review upcoming bills that affect our industry. They need to know who to ask for answers and that is the role of the PBFC in Sacramento. Our constant ear to the ground in time to make a difference and to plead a case for the needs of our industry is what we are all about."

Putting our industry's best face forward for legislators is especially critical during this year, as our Board of Barbering & Cosmetology has recently been ‘raked over the coals' by a Sunset Review Committee of the Legislature for its lack of performance since reinstatement. The recent election of new officers to the Board and an aggressive agenda of taking care of mandated business could reduce the legislative ire and preserve the important board structure.

The companies sponsoring this year's Welcome to Our World were Lumiere Light Therapie, AmeriSpa, J.C. Penney Salons, and Fantastic Sams
