Sacramento, CA – California’s ‘Welcome To Our World' (W.O.W.) lobbying event in Sacramento, held on April 21st, is now a much anticipated annual ‘tradition’ for California legislators and regulators. Hosted on the South steps of the State Capitol building, the 7th annual ‘W.O.W. volunteers and sponsors served up salon/spa services, canapés and conversation for 4 hours to over 250 legislators, hard-working staffers, administration VIPs’ and cosmetology board members. VIP guests included Secretary, State and Consumer Services Agency, Rosario Marin; Director of Consumer Affairs Carrie Lopez, BBC President and VP Jerry Tyler and Richard Hedges, over a dozen Senators and Assemblymembers (see photos) and scores of legislative staffers.
With complimentary neck-and-shoulder massages, manicures, haircuts, make-up consultations and lots of personality, the legislators and regulators who oversee California’s $6 Billion dollar beauty industry got to experience the skills, talents and passion of California salon/spa pros as they helped California politicians ‘de-stress' at day's end, elegantly catered by Sacramento's Do An Event who created a fun 'Sixties' theme for the guests.
Hosted by the Professional Beauty Federation of California (PBFC) and its industry sponsors, the W.O.W. event has been an important awareness-building tool to help educate state policymakers and regulators. W. O. W. sponsorship this year featured:
Platinum sponsor: Fantastic Sams
Gold sponsors: Bosley, California Association for Schools of Cosmetology (CASC), Enjoy Hair Care, Regis and Schwarzkopf.
Silver sponsor: OPIs
Bronze sponsors: Cengage/Milady Publishing, HAI-Elite and Spilo Worldwide.
W.O.W. included over 40 talented industry volunteers from Sacramento’s Federico Beauty Institute, Salon-B (Kathleen and Scott Clark and staffers), and Paul Mitchell Hairstyling Academy with kudos to guest stylist and salon owner Robert Chavis who flew in from San Diego to man his chair for the 5th year in a row.
PBFC Co-Chair Bob Gross says, “Events like W.O.W. along with the ‘ever-present’ PBFC Lobbyist Fred Jones in the halls of the Capitol building have earned PBFC the respect of Sacramento’s decision-makers. We are the trusted “go-to” organization for California’s legislators and administration officials when they need current and accurate information on beauty industry matters. Earning that trust is hard won. PBFC has been at it for nearly a decade making sure legislators and regulators get the accurate, quality input that makes for good laws and regulations that are consistent with industry standards and needs.”
The Professional Beauty Federation of California is credited with stimulating many long-awaited changes to California’s cosmetology laws and regulations, many mandated by the legislature over the past decade’s three sunset reviews but essentially unaddressed by earlier State Boards and Bureaus of Cosmetology. PBFC is the united voice for California's beauty industry working to raise the level of professionalism and the image of the cosmetology industry in our state. Visit the website for more information, or contact PBFC Lobbyist and Legal Counsel Fred Jones at 530-887-9944.
